Tim Gerlach

An EAA member since June of 2006, I joined the chapter in the summer of 2008.  Originally from Southern California, I moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and then to the Kingman area shortly before joining Chapter 765.

Now a private pilot and aspiring aircraft builder, my prior involvement in aviation has been mainly as an occasionaly published, free-lance photographer.  My work has been published in military aviation magazines and at least one book.  While my "true" professional background is in telecommunications and business management, I do love to dabble in a wide variety of trades and hobbies.

A life long aviation enthusiast, I have always been fascinated by aircraft and flying.  In particular I have grown up with a fondness for military aircraft from all periods.  For this reason (and a lack of the millions needed to buy the real thing) I have a great deal of interest in replica warbirds and hope to build more than one in the future.

My only build projects to date include a tank and an airplane, both still in construction.

The first is a 40% scale replica of a M1A1 Abrams tank which has been built from scratch.

My other project in progress is a 7/8 scale Nieuport 17, based on the Graham Lee plans - with several modifications.

I joined with EAA Chapter 765 to learn more about aviation and aircraft from others who share my interests and may be able to teach me a thing or two.  I felt that this is the sort of place that I might find people who are not afraid to do things that others only dream of.
